Fear and acting in Los Angeles

You know it never matters what size class I go  into to teach.. I always learn something!  I have been doing it for many  many years now and you know what, I am good at it..but I still learn and I think that is my favorite  thing. This last week we had a very small class…only 5 actors but it was interesting because another was supposed to come.  She paid, she confirmed and then found a million excuses not to make it to the actual class when push came to shove. She even was in her car on the way, or so she said…

It just confirms again that people get in their own way….None of the “excuses” were really valid…if she really wanted to be there, she would have made it… but we can be our own worst enemies.. And she will come next month and she will probably actually make it. But what is it that makes us afraid at the last minute. Why are we afraid to learn? She had othingto lose but in her mind I was a perceived “threat” ( which is really funny if you know me).

That last minute fear is what really messes us up…it is the last second in an audition when we change our mind on our choices and give up the work we have done. It is the last minute lane changes on the freeway that causes the crash..it is all the last minute fear that causes chaos.

I don’t know anything about skydiving but I am guessing that last minute fear in that is deadly..

So, be aware of when that fear strikes you and then be brave and go with your original decision…it is usually the right one.
