So I am directing this show as you may know and it has many parts that have no lines but are integral to the play (a jury, court clerk etc). So my young assistant director today wanted to know why I wanted to do a rehearsal just with them..and I realized how many actors, especially young one, think that if you have no lines. you are not really important….It was eye opening to me and I guess I just forgot that!
I think it is so interesting to be able to be onstage, fully participate but yet have nothing to say. I think it is a wonderful exercise in truly building a character and discovering how to do inner monologues and have life going without dialogue. I have been trying to think of something they can watch to see how important it is to be able to just “be” as an actor. I know things are out there I am just drawing a blank right now soif you hav any ideas…send ‘em my way. Thanks
