# 1 – on blogging
I’m blogging again. I took some time off, okay, a lot of time off, but now i’m back blogging.
Some new things: you can see we changed the name of the blog. Megan Foley Casting is now called Foley/Marra Casting. Chuck Marra is going to be contributing to this blog a lot. He is my husband and he’s been my partner for 25 years (silent partner for many of those). He’s got a lot to say as well. We cast everything together, but we play to our strengths and passions; he prefers movies and I prefer commercials.
Why start blogging again? Well, the first thing you have to know is that we really can’t talk about the specifics of our work. Advertisers look at their work as very secret until it’s aired. In many cases we have to sign an NDA on the project. Then there are the actors feeling. In many cases we bring sensitive , creative people into impossible situations and say make us laugh or make us care and do it now and in less than a minute. So we can’t talk about the specifics, but the FEELINGS! we can talk about that. The observations, we can talk about that also.
After a week of work, there is lot in our heads. We both know what it is; we’ve lived it. So we go round and round about it and we decided to finally write it down. Social Networks like Facebook and Twitter don’t seem to be the appropriate venues for this kind of thing. They are more well… social. This is more geared toward the artist ….actor, the writer, director, producer.. the artist Face it.. we live in the world with other people but we don’t always feel like we fit in with the rest of it. The most likely reason for this is .. well, we don’t. Whether we are casting directors, directors, producers, actors, sound engineers, editors … painters.. we are different. It’s not the we can’t exist in the ‘other world’ it’s that we live and live more fully in the art world. Cinema, theater, music, television, painting, sculpting, writing.. we thrive in it. So the only place to talk about it is in a place like this. A place that artists of all types might understand and perhaps benefit from thoughts and opinions such as these.
So why start blogging again? I don’t know, maybe something wonderful will come out of it…or something good. Perhaps no one will read it. Ah well, at least it will be out of my head. Perhaps it’s because we can’t stop teaching. We learn something and we need to share it.
